The Kissing PROJECT
Project statement
I started this series in 2018, it was the very beginning of my relationship. We had both decided to explore the notion of being a couple; none of us could fully recognise ourselves in the concept of the “couple” as seen in our society. In 6 years of relationship, we used different terms to define us both. We started by saying “we see each other”, then “we are in a relationship, but not exclusive”, then “an open relationship”, sometimes “non-monogamous couple”, in fact it is difficult to find a term that fully represent us. Like any relationship, it's a very rocky and messy path. I made this series an exploration of love today, watching my partner kiss other people. And also, observing my friends exploring, finding each other, then taking different ways. Sometime, I photographed people I love(d) in a relationship with someone else. This project is perhaps a way for me to explore my emotions, accept them, let them be & observe them…
I use Polaroid to represent the unique worlds of each individual. I show the love between two people, distinct worlds that merge to become another world. What happens to these two distinct 'spaces'? Do they remain in their own 'space' or do they become a single image? With this series, I'm exploring the diversity of love today from my own intimate environment, by asking friends and other people to volunteer.
